MAY-Hudson River- Striped Bass are well known in the shore fishing world of the East Coast, but what many folks dont know is that in the spring we can catch them in great numbers, much closer to home then one thinks! Stripers move up the Hudson River to make their spring mating ritual to spawn, traveling as far north as the Troy Dam, just outside of Albany NY. Beginning in mid April these beautiful sport fish show up in large numbers just outside of Kingston NY. Fishing action can get fast & furious, where the fish finder screen can blackout with schools of fish from top to bottom! Fish average from TEN to TWENTY pounds with fish over THIRTY not uncommon! We will be fishing during the month of May, trips leaving from the Rondout Yacht basin on Rondout Creek, just outside of the city of Kingston. Traditional trolling tackle & techniques will be used, following the schools as they travel with the tidal changes each day. Peak bite times & location change each day, we work with a net work of captains to keep you on the fishing action every trip!
JUNE AUGUST -Lake Champlain - Its no big secret that this lake is gaining national attention as one of the top fishing destinations for both cold water & warm water species!! We target cold water species from June through early August, trolling with light action tackle primarily for Trout & Landlock Atlantic Salmon. Mix bags of Brown Trout, Lake Trout & Steelhead are not uncommon while trolling for the acrobatic Salmon. Speaking of acrobats, Vermont Fish & Game efforts over the last few years of stocking Steelhead are starting to show great success as our charters have been producing quite a few of these fish who can tail dance with the best of them! Catches of Salmon, Browns & Steelies are averaging two to four pounds apiece, with Lake Trout averaging Six to Ten pounds with a few chasing fifteen each year! We fish the mid section of the lake, with most of our trips covering from Westport NY to Charlotte VT. We will be running from Toms marina on the Otter Creek in Vergennes Vermont, which provides a scenic ride down to the mouth of the river offering great wildlife viewing along the way! These trips are great for the family looking to enjoy the beauty that the Champlain Valley provides, with action of Twenty to Thirty hookups per day not uncommon!
August September- Lake Ontario - Line screaming King Salmon!!! What else can we say, there is nothing more exhilarating then holding on to a tackle busting 30 pound King as he takes out 400 hundred feet of line in about 30 seconds! We fish out of Wrights landing in Oswego NY on the eastern end of Lake Ontario during mid August to the first week of September. The weeks surrounding labor day tend to be the best time to catch both Kings & there smaller cousin; Cohos, as they stage in close to shore, preparing for the fall migration up the Oswego & Salmon Rivers. Browns & occasionally Steelhead & Lake trout round out what one could expect to put in with a cooler full of Salmon! Four year old Kings average anywhere from eighteen to thirty two pounds, with monsters pushing FOURTY pounds being taken each year! The King is an eating machine, packing on the pounds from the plentiful bait fish in the lake, gaining the most weight during the summer. This area of Lake Ontario holds the largest concentration of Salmon, as it is where the greatest numbers of young salmon are stocked before making their four year tour of the lake prior to returning to the rivers to spawn. Cohos are a bit smaller but great fighters as well and will push the scales to 20 pounds. The Brown trout fishing in this area is hot all summer; we catch a fair number of these brilliant colored fish during this time period as well with most fish being 6 to 10 pounds, just maybe a 15 pounder for the wall! Come & enjoy Lake Ontario.shell leave you begging for more!
April, September-October The time period prior to and after having the big boat out allows us to get some quiet time in our canoe paddling some more remote ponds and rivers of central Vermont. April offers fantastic stream and pond fishing for Brook, Brown & Rainbow trout on light tackle with both live bait & spinners. We also have some awesome local ponds that have great Bass & Pike fishing; these large predators are hungry and looking for food as the waters warm! With the on slot of fall, the waters cool but the fishing heats up as the scenery comes alive with color! Local rivers such as the Otter Creek & its tributaries, the White River & its tribs along with the many lakes and ponds of Rutland & Addison counties make up the bulk of the waters that we fish in Western Vermont. We offer one on one & two on one trips, making this a great father and son trip to enjoy!
